Organic Market in Romania
In a GAIN Report the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service states that demand from abroad remains the main driver for organic production in Romania, although production actually fell in 2015. Domestic consumption is rising. Imports are mostly highly-processed products and exports from Romania are, for example, oil seeds, grains, protein products and forest fruits. The organic consumer market was estimated to be worth US$ 45 million in 2016, an increase of more than 30 percent compared with two years ago.
Retail stores have played an important role in encouraging the growth in organic consumption: they now allocate shelves to displaying organic products, thus presenting them in an eye-catching way and encouraging shoppers to go for organics.
