The 8.2 million dollars organic egg farm in Michigan (USA)
An organic egg farm that's set to house 480,000 hens is under construction at the intersection of 21st Street and 110th Avenue, northwest of the city of Otsego. All five parcels are zoned AG Agriculture and Rural Estate.
The 8.2 million dollars project is being built in Otsego Township by Konos Inc., a distributor of Vande Bunte Eggs in Martin Township. Konos vice president of operations Rob Knecht said that construction is on track, and that the company is working with municipalities on permits.
Several township residents had objected at the December Otsego Township Planning Commission's meeting to the proposed construction, expressing their concerns about the impact a large animal facility might have. The operation is heavily regulated by the state, with oversight of environmental, traffic and farming issues. According to Knecht the construction will conform to organic standards according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
